Michael Armitage at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh

Posted:

28 October 2017 – 18 February 2018

Michael Armitage participates in the group exhibition ‘NOW’ at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern One).

A room dedicated to Armitage features four of his large-scale paintings including Mpeketoni (2015), Muliro Gardens (bench (2016), Nasema Nawe (2016) and Giraffe grows a Doum Palm (2014). The work Nasema Nawe (2016), is directly inspired by Paul Gauguin’s Vision after the Sermon (1888), one of the most popular works in the National Galleries of Scotland’s collection. The exhibition demonstrates the crucial exchange between artistic communities around the world.
