Mona Hatoum at the Menil Collection, Houston

Posted:

13 October 2017 – 25 February 2018

Mona Hatoum’s first major solo exhibition in the United States in twenty years opens at the Menil Collection.

Uniting a group of sculptures and installations from American and European collections, the show includes Homebound (1999) a mixture of table, chairs and scattered kitchen utensils attached together by a crackling wire of live electricity; alongside La Grande Broyeuse (Mouli-Julienne x 17) (1999) – an exaggerated recreation of an old tool used to shred vegetables. Through her practice, Hatoum transforms objects associated with the feminine sphere of domesticity into strange and imposing beasts.
