Mona Hatoum at the Millennium Gallery, Sheffield

Posted:

17 February – 10 June 2018

Mona Hatoum features in the group exhibition ‘Hope is Strong’ at the Millennium Gallery in Sheffield. The show explores the power of art to question the world we live in and chronicles the confrontations between police and striking miners in South Yorkshire.

Mona Hatoum will be exhibiting Unemployed, a performance from the 1980s where she walked around Sheffield with the word inked onto the sole of her shoe, highlighting the record numbers of jobless citizens in the city.

The exhibition is part of the BBC Civilisations Festival, a partnership between museums, galleries and libraries across the UK hosting events that spark debate, broaden understanding and share ideas about what the term ‘civilisation’ means for their communities.
