Mona Hatoum at the National Museum for Women in the Arts, Washington DC

9 March – 28 May 2018

Mona Hatoum participates in the group exhibition ‘Women House’ showcasing works by 36 international artists at the National Museum for Women in the Arts.

Challenging traditional ideas about gender and domesticity, the exhibition is a sequel to the famous 1972 project ‘Womanhouse’ by artists Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro, which was the first female centred art installation.

Organised in eight themes, ‘Women House’ continues this dialogue from the 1970s, recasting conventional ideas about women through photography, sculpture, installation and video.
