2 March – 23 May 2022
National Art Center, Tokyo
Following his critically acclaimed exhibition at Fondation Cartier, Paris, Damien Hirst exhibits 24 paintings personally selected from his ‘Cherry Blossoms’ series in a new show at the National Art Center Tokyo, his first large-scale show in Japan. The ‘Cherry Blossoms’ reinterpret, with playful irony, the history of painting, from Post Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism, and offer a counterpoint to the artist’s darker works on canvas. Depicting cherry trees in fleeting and vibrant bloom, their colour, perspective and impasto surface open onto worlds unclouded by crushing reality.
