11 November 2020 – 17 January 2021
Long Museum, Shanghai
The Long Museum, Shanghai presents a large-scale solo exhibition by Liu Wei from 11 November 2020. Featuring recent installation, sculpture and painting, it reflects on 2020, a unique year in history.
Liu has transformed the Long Museum (West Bund) into a ‘theatre’ that connects materials, forms, images and movement across two and three dimensions. A ‘micro-world', this highly personal exhibition opens with Dark Matter (2008/ 2020), a site specific installation referencing earth and cosmos and includes 1,098.1 Tons Desert (2020), a large-scale installation incorporating sand which draws attention to the core regions of political, economic and cultural conflict in the world. Combining sculpture, video and painting the central work of the exhibition – Over (2020) – which lends its title to the show, highlights the artist's consistent reflection upon the themes of the body, matter, ideology and global order.
