‘A Century of the Artist’s Studio: 1920 – 2020’, an exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery, explores how artists have used the studio as both a means and a subject of creation. Featured works include Tracey Emin’s Naked Photos – Life Model Goes Mad (1993), a photo series in which the artist is captured painting on her knees, and Miroslaw Balka’s 164 x 90 x 58 (1990), a wood and steel sculpture described by the artist as ‘a (temporary) shelter’.
