Doris Salcedo is constructing a new work made out of surrendered weapons in her native Bogotá, Colombia. Entitled ‘Fragmentos’, the work consists of a grey floor built with melted rifles and is one of three peace monuments that rebels and government officials agreed to build with over 7,000 weapons.
Considered an ‘anti-monument’ by the artist, the work aims to create a space for present and future generations to reflect on Colombian history and will become part of a museum documenting five decades of conflict.
