Royal Academy of Arts, London
The Royal Academy of Arts elect Michael Armitage as a Royal Academician in the category of painting.
Founded in 1768, the Royal Academy of Arts is governed by a group of Royal Academicians who are all eminent practising artists or architects. Elected by these prestigious practitioners, Armitage joins the group as one of the greatest names in contemporary art.
In September 2020, Armitage opened a solo exhibition, ‘Paradise Edict’, at the Haus der Kunst, Munich, to great acclaim, which later toured to the Royal Academy of Arts in May 2021. He is pictured here in front of the 'floating gallery' to which he contributed as part of the Royal Academy’s 'The Piccadilly Art Takeover' in the summer of 2021.
