Preview: ‘Imi Knoebel: Once Upon a Time’ featuring The Raincoats

Join us for a celebration of ‘Imi Knoebel: Once Upon a Time’ at White Cube Bermondsey.

A unique performance by cult post-punk band The Raincoats will take place alongside the unveiling of Knoebel’s latest experiments in abstract art, shown throughout the galleries.

Playing songs from their legendary first album ‘The Raincoats’, 1979, the band will perform to guests in the gallery's main corridor.

Imi Knoebel’s decades-long relationship with The Raincoats can be linked back to the legendary Düsseldorf nightclub Ratinger Hof, which was founded in 1974 by Carmen Knoebel, the artist’s wife, and her record shop and label ‘Pure Freude’ (‘Pure Joy’). Host to iconic performances, and featuring a colourful lighting system designed by Knoebel, Ratinger Hof is widely regarded as one of Germany’s most important Punk venues.

Fish and Chips, beers, wine and soft drinks will be served in the White Cube Bermondsey courtyard throughout the evening.
