Rachel Kneebone at the Foundling Museum, London

Posted:

29 September 2017 – 7 January 2018

Rachel Kneebone exhibits five works from her Raft of Medusa series at the Foundling Museum. On public display for the first time, the sculptures provide a counterpoint to ‘Basic Instincts’, an exhibition exploring the work of the 18th century artist Joseph Highmore.

The Raft of Medusa addresses the human condition: sexuality, representations of the body, resilience and mortality. Kneebone uses porcelain, a material traditionally associated with fine tableware and Rococo exuberance in her work. Her sculptures distort and crack in the kiln, inviting viewers to question the relationship between strength and vulnerability.
