Runa Islam, Mona Hatoum and Raqib Shaw at the Dhaka Art Summit 2018

Posted:

2 – 10 February 2018

With over 300 artists in 10 exhibitions, 120 speakers in 16 panel discussions and two symposiums, the 4th edition of the Dhaka Art Summit looks at Bangladesh in relation to both South and Southeast Asia.

This year’s event features Raqib Shaw’s first major presentation in South Asia, curated by Tate Director Dr. Maria Balshaw and Curator Diana Campbell Betancourt as part of the ‘Bearing Points’ exhibition.

White Cube artists Runa Islam and Mona Hatoum both sit on the jury for the Samdani Art Award, Bangladesh’s leading art award.

Additionally, Runa Islam is the Artistic Leader of ‘Total Anastrophes’, the 8th edition of ‘Volcano Extravaganza’, the Fiorucci Art Trust’s yearly festival of contemporary art. Held for the first time offsite from Stromboli, Italy, the event will see the auditorium of the Shilpakala Academy transformed into the inner echo chamber of an active volcano.

Founded in 2012, the Dhaka Art Summit is an international non-commercial research and exhibition platform for art and architecture related to South Asia. The Summit’s interdisciplinary programme concentrates its international reach towards the advancement and promotion of South Asia’s past and present creative communities.
