A solo exhibition dedicated to the work of Theaster Gates will inaugurate the new Albuquerque Foundation in Sintra, Portugal, this February.

Situated just outside Lisbon, the Albuquerque Foundation is a newly established institution specialising in ceramics. It houses one of the world’s most extensive collections of Chinese export porcelain, featuring pieces from the Ming and Qing dynasties as well as imperial porcelain. The exhibition will pay homage to the clay that governs Gates's exploration of trade, export, and the transnational histories of craft. The exhibition will showcase a selection of works by Gates alongside highlights from the Albuquerque Foundation's extensive collection.
