Tunji Adeniyi-Jones: Astral Reflections

Tunji Adeniyi-Jones’s first solo exhibition in the UK opens in September 2021 at Charleston in East Sussex, the modernist home and studio of painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant.

Exploring how travel and movement has impacted the Black experience over centuries, the presentation draws parallels between Adeniyi-Jones’s practice and Grant’s vivid compositions and interest in the human form.

‘The title ‘Astral Reflections’ speaks to the physical and emotional fragments that we gather and leave behind through continued travel and transition. I am interested in how the transformative nature of the Black experience is nourished by travel, movement and cultural hybridity.’ Adeniyi-Jones has stated.

The exhibition coincides with the artist’s first solo show at the gallery, opening at White Cube Bermondsey in November 2021.
