White Cube at Frieze New York 2019

Posted:

2 – 5 May 2019

Booth C13

At Frieze New York 2019, White Cube presents a thematic booth of painting, sculpture and works on paper by a range of artists who use the body as a source of inspiration.

Highlights include:

– Works by Miroslaw Balka (b. 1958, Warsaw, Poland) including Angel (1988), a seminal sculpture that reflects a pivotal moment in his career. In 1988 the artist started to abandon figuration, and his visual language developed into abstract and minimal renderings. In this work, raw planks of wood sourced from his home and studio in Otwock, Poland, are nailed together to form a figure with curved steel ‘wings’.

– Paintings by Tracey Emin (b. 1963, Croydon, UK) including I Thought of Nothing BUT You (2019). Following her critically acclaimed London exhibition ‘A Fortnight of Tears’, in these new works, Emin focuses on her own body as a conduit for her feelings, connecting with a history of expressive figuration in art.

– A series of new paintings by Magnus Plessen (b. 1967, Hamburg, Germany), including Untitled (Blue) (2019), in which he uses a range of painterly techniques to explore the mechanisms of the body.
