White Cube opens a new project in Aspen, Colorado

Posted:

8 June – 5 September 2021

White Cube’s off-site project in Aspen will play host to monthly displays of works by internationally-renowned modern and contemporary artists.

In a series of exhibitions spread over three months titled ‘Correspondence’, the gallery presents pairings of selected works by artists including Tracey Emin, Cerith Wyn Evans, Anselm Kiefer and Antony Gormley.

White Cube will be based in a historic 19th-century building in the heart of town, close to the Aspen Art Museum, which is hosting ‘Aspen Drift’, a solo exhibition of works by British artist Cerith Wyn Evans from 10 June – 10 October 2021.

The first exhibition in the ‘Correspondence’ series, running from 8 June – 4 July 2021, brings together the kinetic art of Takis with gestural monochrome painting by Cerith Wyn Evans; the geometric abstraction of Dóra Maurer alongside the loose brushwork and freeform shapes of Imi Knoebel; and colourful ‘complex illusionism’ by Al Held with Josiah McElheny’s glass paintings.

The second display, from 10 – 29 July 2021, will see pairings of Kaari Upson and Tracey Emin; Rachel Kneebone and Magnus Plessen; and Jessica Rankin and Etel Adnan.

The third and final presentation, running from 3 August – 5 September 2021, will feature Isamu Noguchi and Antony Gormley; Anselm Kiefer and Ibrahim Mahama; and Theaster Gates and Haim Steinbach.

The Aspen off-site project follows White Cube’s recent series of exhibitions in West Palm Beach, Florida.
