Using the process of photogravure, Vwoosh (2011) visualises a centrifugal force composed of collaged elements from Manga comics and onomatopoeic words. Informed by research conducted at the experimental Graphicstudio in Tampa, Florida, Vwoosh enhances the dynamism of the edition’s title. Collaged streaks and clouds invoke animated qualities of detonation and acceleration, as though the very visual and textual matter were erupting from the composition’s centre.

Marclay’s formal experimentation creates a symphony of collaged interference, an illustrated soundscape of organised tension. Using the qualities of discordance and cacophony that collage affords, Marclay creates a unique image of conflicting sounds that are additionally textured by the photogravure process.
